Jim Gillen, director of the Anchor Recovery Community Center, participated as an expert panelist in a radio broadcast on Saturday called “Policy and Pinot.” The panelists answered questions from healthcare reporter Megan Hall and discussed possible reasons why Rhode Island ranks number one in substance abuse and mental health disorders. Anchor Hosts Main Street Meeting

The Anchor Recovery Community Center served as the meeting location for a Pawtucket Foundation meeting to discuss improvements to Main Street this morning. Representatives from several Main Street businesses attended.

Sober Dance Fundraiser April 7

The Anchor Recovery Community Center will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit Rhode Island’s Rally for Recovery. The dance will be held on Saturday, April 7th from 7 until 11 pm. Tickets are available at the front desk for $6 per person.

Congressman Patrick Kennedy Finds Recovery at the Anchor!

Congressman Patrick Kennedy visited the Anchor this morning for a meeting with several recovery advocates. We are told that they discussed health care reform, recovery coaching, and addiction and mental illness treatment. Before the meeting began, Congressman Kennedy mingled with people attending a morning 12-step meeting. Several people posed to have their pictures taken with him. ”He’s a really nice, down-to-earth guy when you talk to him” said Jim Gillen, the Anchor’s director. ”He seems genuinely committed to recovery and mental health.”

“Staying Alive on the Outside” Film Premiere

On Thursday, January 5, 2012, film maker Gretchen Hildebran will be screening her 19 minute film, Staying Alive on the Outside at the Anchor Recovery Community Center. This is the first time the film has been seen by the public. A discussion of the film, and then an optional overdose prevention training will be presented.
